Trying to please everyone is a goal that cannot be reached...
Shaykh Muhammad Amaan al-Jaamee rahimahUllah said:
A caller [scholar or student] who tries to be beloved by all the people with their different levels, preferences affiliations and groups, all of them loving him… This is a Flatterer.
A caller [scholar or student] who tries to please all the people, [so] no one becomes angry with him… And [that] everyone says: Fulaan (so and so) is just [and] he is not disorderly… And ever sect, gang, group and party are pleases with this person… [This] is a Flattering hypocrite and there is no doubt in that. Since this is not possible… Like [Imaam] as-Shaafi’ee mentions: “[The] pleasure of the people is a goal that can not be reached.” Thus, in view of the that fact your endeavor to please all of the people is an aim that can not be attained… But there is a goal that can be reached and it is required [of one]… Consequently, attempting to please the people is an aim that can not be attained and is not required but, the pleasure of Allah is a goal that is reachable and required… Hence, the pleasure of Allah, Glorified is He, is a goal that is attained by the one Allah grants success and exposes him to His [meaning Allah's] pleasure… [So,] His pleasure is an aim that is reachable and required, [thus] it is imperative for the caller [scholar or student] to be concerned over this meaning when he steps into the arena of da’wah (calling)…And whoever does not have the ability to do this then indeed [let him] sit in his home…
